The MSA is used to validate the measurement system for use by evaluating the accuracy, precision, and stability of the system.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is the Measurement System?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A measurement system has been defined as a system of related measurements that allows certain characteristics to be quantified. It may also include a set of indicators, fixtures, software, and personnel necessary to verify a particular unit of measure or make an assessment of the measured property. Sources of variation in a measurement process can include:<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"w-separator size_medium\"><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"wpb_column vc_column_container\"><div class=\"vc_column-inner\"><div class=\"wpb_text_column\"><div class=\"wpb_wrapper\"><p>\u2013 Process \u2013 test method, specification<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Personnel \u2013 operators, skill levels, training, etc.<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Tools \/ Equipment \u2013 \u200b\u200bgauges, fixtures, test equipment used and their associated calibration systems<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Items to be measured \u2013 samples of the part or material being measured, sampling plan, etc.<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Environmental factors \u2013 temperature, humidity etc.<\/p>\n<p>All these possible sources of variation should be considered during Measurement System Analysis. Evaluation of a measurement system should include the use of specific quality tools to identify the most likely source of variation. Most MSA activities examine two main sources of variation; parts and their measurement.
